VESA ( Video Electoronics Standards Association ) は Apple が iMac などで採用している Mini DisplayPort コネクタを規格化したと発表したそうです。従来の予定では DisplayPort Version 1.2 で Mini DisplayPort を採用し規格化するはずだったそうですが、Version 1,Rev.1a での前倒しの採用となったそうです。

Milpitas, CA., November 10, 2009 – The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) today issued its Mini-Display Port (mDP) Connector Standard, defining the new, small connector that supports the full range of power, signaling and protocol capabilities defined in the DisplayPort Standard Version 1, Revision 1a.

Mini-DisplayPort meets the need for a smaller form factor connector for devices such as thin portable computers and add-in cards with multiple display interfaces. The mDP connector can be used as an alternative to the standard DisplayPort connector defined in Version 1, Rev. 1a.

VESA に規格化されたということで他社の PC にも搭載されることも見込まれますし、なによりケーブルや変換アダプタなどが安価に発売されることにもなると思いますので、iMac 27″ ユーザあたりは嬉しいことになりそうですよね。
