Microsoft が次期 OS の Windows 7 を 2009年10月22日 に発売すると発表しました。あわせて Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program なる Windows 7 を特別価格でアップグレードするプログラムも発表されましたが、こちらの詳細は後日となるようです。

Our milestone-to-milestone approach for Windows 7 is built on a great deal of feedback from customers and testers. This has been pivotal to the development of Windows 7.
I blogged a few weeks ago that it’s looking like we’ll have Windows 7 ready in time for the holidays.
Since then we’ve made enough progress to feel really good about announcing today that Windows 7 will be in stores beginning October 22nd.
それにしてもビックリな速さです。この感じだと WWDC 2009 でおよその発売時期が発表されるだろう Mac OS X 10.6 snow leopard よりも早くの発売になりそうな予感です。
Microsoft はまだ一般利用はできないものの新検索エンジン Bing を公開しています。以前、開発コード KUMO として公開していたものです。正式版は 6月3日 からサービスインだそうですので、しばらくお待ちくださいませ。
現在 Bing のサイトに行くとどういう使い方ができるのかの動画がアップされています。結構派手なビジュアルで、いろいろなデータがひょひょっと表示されていき、クリックしていくことで関連した画像やデータが検索されていくのは結構カッコイイかも。
いままでの検索ツールとは一線はひいてるので、これと Google や Yahoo がどうのということではなく、目的に合わせて利用するツールとなればいいなぁと思います。ただ、こればかりは使って判断をするしかないんでね(^^;;;;
Microsoft は 有機EL のタッチスクリーンディスプレイを搭載したポータブルメディアプレーヤーの Zune HD を今秋に発売するそうです。詳しい機能や性能は 6月2日 から開催される予定のゲーム関連イベント E3 で紹介されるそうです。

Windows Vista SP2 / Windows Server 2008 SP2 は新たなハードウェアへの対応、信頼性などの改善など多岐にわたる性能の向上がなされているようです。全体では約700にも及ぶ項目で機能追加や改善などが行われているということです。

Microsoft は次期 OS となる Windows 7 の正式版が年内に出荷がほぼ確実であるという見通しをブログで明らかにしました。現在の Windows 7 RC のレベルからすると今後3カ月以内に開発が完了しそうだということです。
Windows 7 on Track to Hit This Holiday Season
There has been quite a bit of speculation and chatter around the timing of milestones for Windows 7. Of course folks want to know when Windows 7 will become available in stores and on new PCs. We’re in a good position today to provide an update to the timing of when we expect for that to happen. I’m really excited to be able to give this update – particularly given what it takes to deliver a high quality OS to millions of partners, customers, developers and the entire ecosystem.
Microsoft は 次期 OS となる Windows 7 RC 版 を日本でも配布を開始しました。ダウンロードには Windows Live ID が必要になるのを始め、以下の条件を満たす PC が必要になってきます。
・1GHz以上の32bitまたは64bitプロセッサ
・1GB以上のシステムメモリ
・16GBの空き容量のあるHDD
・DirectX 9のグラフィックスに対するサポート、およびグラフィックス用として128MB のメモリ(Aeroテーマを有効にする際に必要)
・DVD-R/Wドライブ
Windows 7 RC 版の有効期限は 2010年6月1日 までだそうです。思ったよりも、結構長いんですね(^^;;;;
Microsoft は Windows 7 上で Windows XP を仮想環境で動作させる互換モードを搭載するそうです。Windows XP で動作するアプリを動作させることが出来るので、安心して Windows 7 へ移行できるようになりそうです。

Windows XP Mode is specifically designed to help small businesses move to Windows 7. Windows XP Mode provides you with the flexibility to run many older productivity applications on a Windows 7 based PC.
All you need to do is to install suitable applications directly in Windows XP Mode which is a virtual Windows XP environment running under Windows Virtual PC. The applications will be published to the Windows 7 desktop and then you can run them directly from Windows 7.
Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC are best experienced on your new Windows 7 PC. We will be soon releasing the beta of Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate.
基本的には Windows Virtual PC の上で Windows XP が動作するということですので、実行速度が気になるところですが、まずはアプリが動かせるっていうことが大事なのではないかなって思います。
近々、Windows 7 Professional と Windows 7 Ultimate 向けに Windows XP 互換モードと Windows Virtual PC のベータ版の配布を予定しているんだそうです。楽しみですね。
