Windows 8.1、10月18日リリース開始

Microsoft が Windows 8.1 のリリースを 2013年10月18日 と発表しました。で、Windows Blog では、カレンダーに書き込んでおいてねー！って感じで案内をしておりましたよ！ Windows 8 はボクも使ってるんですけど、なかなか慣れなくて‥‥ (笑) 会社で Windows 7 を使ってるからかなぁ(^^;;;

Mark your calendars for Windows 8.1!

I know a lot of folks are eager to find out when they will be able to get Windows 8.1. I am excited to share that starting at 12:00am on October 18th in New Zealand (that’s 4:00am October 17th in Redmond), Windows 8.1 will begin rolling out worldwide as a free update for consumers on Windows 8 through the Windows Store. Windows 8.1 will also be available at retail and on new devices starting on October 18th by market. So mark your calendars!

Microsoft Surfaceは499ドルからだそうですね

Microsoft のタブレット Surface の Windows RT 搭載モデルの販売価格は、本体のみの 32GB モデルが 499ドル で、Touch Cover 付き 32GB モデルが 599ドル。Touch Cover 付きの 64GB モデルが 699ドル だそうです。

思っていたよりも高いですね。もっと安く iPad に対抗してくるかと思っていたんだけど、Office 2013 の RT プレビュー版がプリインストールされていることを考えればこんなもんかもしれないね。


Windows 8は10月26日発売

Microsoft は Windows 8 の発売日が 2012年10月26日 に決定したことを発表しました。

Just a few minutes ago, Steven Sinofsky announced at Microsoft’s annual sales meeting that customers will be able to get Windows 8 – whether in upgrade fashion or on a new PC – starting on October 26th. Earlier this month at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Tami Reller told attendees Windows 8 would be available in October. But now everyone has a specific date to mark on their calendars. It’s on mine!

XPなどからWindows 8 Proにアップグレードが39.99ドル!

Microsoft は Windows XP / Vista / 7 がインストールされた PC に、わずか 39.99ドル で Windows 8 Pro にアップグレードできるキャンペーンを 2013年1月31日 まで行うと発表しました。39.99ドル はネットでのオンライン購入で、パッケージ版は 69.99ドル で提供されるそうです。

オンラインでの購入は非常に手軽で Windows.com で Windows 8 Pro のアップグレードを選択すると Windows Upgrade Assistant が起動し、ウィザード形式でダウンロードからインストールまで行えるそうです。そのときには、インストールする PC をチェックし、アプリケーションやハードウェアの互換性をレポートするそうです。

いやー、これはありがたい。うちの Mac の VMware のうえで動いている Windows XP なんかもアップグレードが問題なくできるだろうから( 希望的観測 ) 、こりゃ Windows 8 Pro にしちゃわないとなぁ。

Microsoft 自社ブランドの Windows 8 タブレット Surface を発表

Microsoft は自社ブランドのタブレット Surface を発表しました。Surface は Windows 8 Pro または Windows RT の 2つ のプラットフォームで展開されます。ユーザの好みで、いずれかの OS を選ぶカタチになります。また、カバー型キーボード Touch Cover も用意され、タッチ操作による入力だけではなくメカニカルキーによる入力も可能になっています。

発売日は現在未定ながら Windows RT モデルは PC 向けの Windows 8 と同時発売の予定で、Windows 8 Pro モデルはそれから約90日後の発売を予定しているそうです。価格はいずれも未定とのことです。

この端末で Microsoft Office 15 Apps が果たしてどれほど使い物になるのかが気がかりです。本当は iPad に Office ‥‥　というか Excel が出てくれたら問題はないんだけど、出ないとなるとこの Surface がいきなり売れちゃうかもだし、個人的にも欲しいかもって思ってしまうかも(笑)

次期 Windows の正式名称は Windows 8

Microsoft は 次期 Windows の正式名称を Windows 8 に決定したことを発表しました。尚、Windows 8 は Windows 8 と Windows 8 Pro の 2つ のエディションとなり、従来の Home Basic や Home Premium などといったエディションは集約されたカタチとなりました。これはありがたいですね。

また、x86 / x64 系の CPU とは別に ARM 系の CPU にも対応する Windows も発表し、正式名称を Windows RT としました。こちらの基本的な機能は Windows 8 と同様のものとなっていますが、一部の機能など使えないものもあるようです。

We have talked about Windows 8 as Windows reimagined, from the chipset to the user experience. This also applies to the editions available – we have worked to make it easier for customers to know what edition will work best for them when they purchase a new Windows 8 PC or upgrade their existing PC.

UI が Metro ベースとなっている Windows 8 が世間にどのように受け入れられていくのかが気になるところですが、そこそこ売れちゃうんだろうなぁ(^^;;
