Dropbox のパッケージ版をソースネクスが発売するそうで、価格は 8500円。ソフトと 100GB のプレミアムサービスの1年分が利用できるクーポンコードが同梱されて 8500円 なんだそうです。
通常、Dropbox の 100GB の有料サービスは年間 99ドル のサービスですので、いまの為替から言うと 9,705円 ( 2013.4.29 ) になるみたいだから、それが 8500円 でっていうのは、1000円 ほどお得になるんですよね。
新規ユーザじゃなくても Dropbox ユーザなら、あえてパッケージ版を買うっていう選択はありですね。更新にもクーポンは使えるということですからね(^^
NHN Japan は、同社がネット上でサービス提供している liverdoor メール など、9つのサービスを終了すると発表しました。livedoor blog や LINE の事業に注力するためだとしているそうです。ボクも livedoor メール を使っているだけに困ったなぁというのが感想ですが、複数のメールアドレスの整理もしなきゃって思ってたとこだし、きっかけとしてはいいかもなんだけど‥‥ 残念です。

livedoor、新たなチャレンジにむけて一部サービスを終了
NHN Japan株式会社（本社：東京都渋谷区、代表取締役社長：森川 亮、以下 NHN Japan）は、より一層便利で有益なサービスの開発・提供に集中するため、「livedoor」ブランドの下で展開しておりました一部サービスの提供を終了することとなりましたのでお知らせします。
ちなみに livedoor メール は、2013年10月31日 に終了します。
いまの Gmail ベースの livedoor メールになる前から使っていたアドレスだからかなり古いメールアドレスなのです。だから、使えなくなるのは少しさみしいですが、仕方ないですね。
Twitter 社は同社のサービス Twitter が 2006年3月21日 から7年が経過したことを発表していました。はじめての Tweet が Jack Dorsey による “just setting up my twttr” だったそうです。

現在では1日あたり4億の Tweet がなされているそうで、スゴイもんですね。
ボクは 2007年5月11日 から Twitter をやってるんですけど、当時はほとんどやってなかったですけど、同年の 6月 にあった渋谷で温泉設備が爆発した事故の速報で、Twitter があまりに早くてビビったものでした。
当時からすると Twitter の使われ方は大きく変わったようでもありますが、メディアとしての地位は十分確立するまでになりましたね。
iOS 用のメールアプリ Mailbox を開発した Orchestra が Dropbox に1億ドルで買収されたそうです。Mailbox は、メールをタスク管理に利用するという独特な思想に基づく UI で、前評判が非常に高くあっという間に人気者になった Gmail 専用のメールアプリなのです。
ボクも使っていたんですけど、To Do的にメールを使う場合は絶大な効果があるんですが、大量のメールを処理するにはちょっと向いてないかな‥‥って感じで使うのを辞めてしまいました。会社で使っているメールアドレスが利用できたら、十分価値のあるものとなっているんでですけどね‥‥
Gmail とかが使えないウチの会社が悪いね。

買収後も Mailbox は開発されていくということですので、安心ですね。Google に買収されて残念な結果になった Sparrow と違うカタチでよかったです。
Google は 同社の RSSリーダー Google Reader ( Googleリーダー )を 2013年7月1日 をもって終了することを発表したそうです。利用者が減っていることが終了させる理由ということなんですが、これは残念としか言い様がないです。
Google は登録データを XMLファイル としてダウンロードできるので、他の RSSサービス に移行することが可能としています。

ですが、OS X 用RSSリーダーアプリの Reeder を使っているものとすれば、Reeder が他の RSSサービス に対応してくれれば安心できるものの、もし使えないとなると‥‥
MPEG LA が Google の動画フォーマット WebM に用いられている動画コーデックの VP8 に使われている特許技術を、Google にライセンスを付与することを発表。今後、Google は同社が同ライセンスを利用するほか、他の VP8 利用者にサブライセンスをすることも可能になるそうです。
これによって、同社の動画フォーマット WebM など VP8 を利用する Web動画 を広く普及させていきたいという思惑があるそうです。これれを使うことで H.264 での権利処理などの煩雑な部分に触れることなく、フリーに動画を扱えるようになることを再度目指すようですね。
ただ、いままでもそうでしたが、H.264 ほど普及しているフォーマットに対抗するにはライセンスの扱いは大事ですが、モバイルなどのデバイスや、その他のハード上でも対応しないと普及は難しいですよね。2010年から WebM はあるのに、一向に普及への兆しは見えてきませんしね‥‥。
VP8 and MPEG LA
Today Google Inc. and MPEG LA, LLC announced agreements that will result in MPEG LA ending its efforts to form a VP8 patent pool.The arrangement with MPEG LA and 11 patent owners grants a license to Google and allows Google to sublicense any techniques that may be essential to VP8 and are owned by the patent owners; we may sublicense those techniques to any VP8 user on a royalty-free basis. The techniques may be used in any VP8 product, whether developed by Google or a third party or based on Google’s libvpx implementation or a third-party implementation of the VP8 data format specification. It further provides for sublicensing those VP8 techniques in one successor generation to the VP8 video codec.
米 Twitter社 は Twitter のウェブと公式アプリで、これまで約1週間前までのツイートの検索を、もっと過去のツイートまで検索し表示できるようにしたんだそうです。ただし、まだすべてのツイートの検索ができるというわけではないようです。徐々に検索できる範囲は広がるようです。
今後はユーザにとって最適な検索結果を表示してくれるようにしたいんだそうです。
Now showing: Older Tweets in search results
Thursday, February 07, 2013Yesterday, we updated our Android, iOS and mobile web apps to make it easier for you to find relevant content when you’re on the go. We also started to roll out an additional update on our mobile apps as well as on twitter.com: you’ll now be able to find older Tweets using search. To see for yourself, try searching for [Manchester United Southampton] or [#SpotTheShuttle].
Previously, Twitter search results displayed Tweets going back about a week. We’ve developed a way to include older Tweets, so you can see content that goes beyond the more recent Tweets.
As we roll this out over the coming days, the Tweets that you’ll see in search results represent a fairly small percentage of total Tweets ever sent. We look at a variety of types of engagement, like favorites, retweets and clicks, to determine which Tweets to show. We’ll be steadily increasing this percentage over time, and ultimately, aim to surface the best content for your query. For now, enjoy your trip down memory lane!
